Prof. Neelesh Kumar Jain joined IIT Indore as 1st Associate Professor in Jan 2010, became Professor in Dec. 2013, and Professor (HAG) in Dec 2019. He did PhD (2003) and MTech (1995) from IIT Kanpur with specialization in Manufacturing Science and BE in Mechanical Engineering from SGSITS Indore in 1993. Before joining IIT Indore, he served Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at IIT Roorkee during June 2004 to Jan. 2010; South Asia International Institute, Hyderabad during June 2003 to May 2004 and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, New Delhi during July 2002 to June 2003. Prof. Jain extensively works on various aspects of Metal Additive Manufacturing, Solid-State Additive Manufacturing, Use of AI in Additive Manufacturing, Advanced High-Quality Finishing of Gears, Net-shape Manufacturing of Miniature and Non-Circular Gears, Green Hobbing of Gears, Advanced Finishing and Machining Processes, Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Manufacturing Processes, and Micro-joining of Thin Sheet of Dissimilar Materials. He has developed 11 innovative, Affordable, and Scalable Technologies in these areas.

Prof. Jain has played significant role in the development of temporary and permanent campuses of IIT Indore since Jan. 2010, Virtual Classroom (VCR) under National Knowledge Network (NKN). He has developed SEVEN state of art research and teaching labs at IIT Indore namely 1. DST-FIST Center of Excellence in Gear Engineering (CEGE) 2. Additive and Micromanufacturing Lab (AMAL) 3. Advanced Manufacturing Processes (AMP) Lab, 4. Metrology Lab; 5. Gear Manufacturing Lab; 6. Advanced Finishing Processes Lab 7. Central Workshop consisting of Machining Science Lab and Manufacturing Process Lab. He played crucial role in conceptualizing, coordinating, securing funding and establishing DST-FIST Center of Excellence in Gear Engineering at IIT Indore in 2015. He is PI of DST-FIST project on Gear Engineering (2015-2020) and Coordinator Center of Excellence in Gear Engineering since Aug. 2015. Prof. Jain has served as Director (Officiating) of IIT Indore during 1st Jan 2020 to 30 Jan 2022, as Acting Director of IIT Indore for a total duration of more than 18 months spanning on various occasions during 2010 to 2022, 1st Dean of Academic Affairs during 6th Oct 2010 to 30 May 2019 with reappointment in 2013 for 2nd tenure and in Oct 2016 for 3rd tenure, Member of 1st Board of Governors of IIT Indore during April 2010 to July 2012, Finance Committee Member during Feb 2017 to May 2023, and as BoG Member of NIT Raipur during July 2015-July 2018. As the founding DoAA of IIT Indore, Prof. Jain has played significant role in developing course curriculum, academic procedures and regulations, and academic infrastructure for various BTech, MTech, MSc, PhD and dual degree programs of IIT Indore, orgranizing 9 orientation and 6 convocations of IIT Indore.
