11. Teaching Faculty:
 

Prof. Weeratunge Malalasekera is a Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics & Heat Transfer at the Loughborough University, United Kingdom. Prof.  Malalasekera maintains good collaborative links with a number of internationally leading research groups. His research interests include modelling and simulations of IC engines; Investigations into the performance of CCGT power plants; Development and investigations into energy storage solutions; Investigation into hydrogen applications, combustion, deflagration and flame propagation in hydrogen mixtures and Large eddy simulations of premixed and non-premixed flames.

Prof. Malalasekera contributes to all levels in undergraduate teaching and runs and contributes to the M.Sc Programme in Mechanical Engineering. Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer are the main subjects taught. He is the co-author of the textbook entitled ‘An introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics: The Finite Volume Method’. First published by Longman Higher Education in 1995, this book as become a widely used popular CFD course text at many universities worldwide. An enhanced second edition of this book covering advanced topics and recent development in CFD has been published in February 2007, by Pearson Higher Education. By popular demand, a number of international editions (Chinese, Asian, Japanese, Greek and Korean) have also been published. 


 

12. Course Coordinator
  • Dr. Shanmugam Dhinakaran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Indore, India. He received his Ph.D. in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer from IIT Kharagpur, India in 2008. He had worked as a post-doctoral researcher at University of Pau, France; University of Minho, Portugal; University of Porto, Portugal, and University of Valenciennes, France before joining IIT Indore as an Assistant Professor in 2012. Dr. Dhinakaran is also an adjunct faculty in the Department of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering, IIT Indore. He is the coordinator of The Centre for Fluid Dynamics at IIT Indore. Non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, Porous media, Nanofluids and Cardiovascular diseases are his research areas.


13. Credit Course and Examination
  • This is a one credit course. An examination will be conducted on the last day of the course.
  • Grade sheet will be sent to the participants after the course.

18. ABOUT INDORE
  • Indore is located in Central India, 190 km from the state capital Bhopal. It is an education hub of the state and houses both IIT as well as IIM.  It is well connected by road, rail and air. The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport and the nearest railway station is Indore Junction. Indore falls under Tier 2 cities in India and has a land area of 530 km2. Tincha falls, Patalpani, Choral Dam, Mandu, Maheshwar, Ujjain Mahakaleswar temple and Omkareshwar temple are some of the tourist attractions. The language spoken here is Hindi.

Travel time from Bhopal Junction to Indore (Geeta Bhavan) is around 4 hours. From Geeta Bhavan, take an auto/taxi to Silver Springs Township, Indore (if you are given an accommodation in IIT Indore hostel).
