Overview of the Proposed Course

This short-term course will mainly focus on discussing the advanced topics of Computer Vision which is a subset of mainstream artificial intelligence that deals with the technology of enabling computers or machines in general to see; and analyze and interpret what they see.

Resource Persons

1. Dr. Surya Prakash, Associate Professor (CSE, IIT Indore)
2. Dr. Somnath Dey, Associate Professor (CSE, IIT Indore)
3. Dr. Puneet Gupta, Assistant Professor (CSE, IIT Indore)
4. Dr. Vivek Kanhangad, Associate Professor (EE, IIT Indore)

Tentative schedule

The course comprises of lectures and lab sessions. Everyday (except the last day), before lunch (10:00AM to 1:30PM), there will be three lectures of one hour duration (with a break of 15 minutes after each lecture) and after lunch, there will a lab session of two hours duration. On the last day (10:00AM to 1:00PM), there will be two lectures followed by feedback & experience sharing and valedictory sessions.

Tentative Topics to be Covered in the Course

The course will cover traditional as well as neural networks and deep learning based methods for computer vision. Application areas such as Image Classification, Object Detection and Recognition, Face Recognition etc. will be discussed. The course will cover deep learning architectures such as CNN, R-CNN etc. Lab sessions will include programming using Python and Matlab.

How will this short- term course benefit teachers?

Computer Vision is a subset of mainstream artificial intelligence. Due to huge applications of artificial intelligence in solving day to day life problems, it has gained tremendous importance in developing technologies where computer needs to see the surroundings and take decisions accordingly. The computer vision combines theory and technology for building of artificial systems for image interpretation or multi-dimensional data. This course will enable participants to learn basics as well as advanced topics necessary for developing vision based artificial systems. The course will also provide hands-on training to participants to enable them to correlate theory with practice.

Intended Participants (Who can attend?)

The teachers of the AICTE approved Engineering Colleges are eligible under this scheme. Faculty members from the streams such as Computer Science, Information Technology and Electrical / Electronics & Communication Engineering and other related streams can apply under this program. The seats are limited, which would be filled on first come first serve basis and the candidate’s field of research interest. Participants other than teachers of AICTE approved colleges (students and participants from industry etc.) can also attend the course by paying a fee.

Selection Procedure

Seats are limited and will be filled based on the matching research interests of the applicants on First-Cum-First-Serve basis. Fee paid will be refunded in case a candidate is not shortlisted for the course.
