{"id":213,"date":"2017-12-20T03:11:36","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T03:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/people.iiti.ac.in\/~aks\/?page_id=213"},"modified":"2025-02-22T03:21:39","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T21:51:39","slug":"methods-facilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/people.iiti.ac.in\/~aks\/methods-facilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Methods &#038; Facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><a name=\"syn\"><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Synthesis &amp; Characterization:<\/span><\/strong> We are a synthetic inorganic and organometallic chemistry group with particular interests in catalysis and developing renewable energy and energy-efficient methods. The research activities in my group involve synthetic inorganic and organometallic chemistry while various spectroscopic characterization, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and computational methods are also routinely employed. <span class=\"fontstyle0\">After the successful synthesis of new ligands, the following studies are carried out:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Study of complexation of the new ligands with base transition metals as well as \u201cprecious\u201d metals. Complete characterization of new metal complexes with usual spectroscopic methods (IR, UV-Vis, Multinuclear NMR studies, Mass Spectrometry, etc.) and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Investigation of reactivity of new metal complexes towards small molecules and exploring possible catalytic applications in suitable reactions. <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Attempts to identify intermediate structures in the reaction mixture,<\/span> allowing for detailed mechanistic studies,<span class=\"fontstyle0\"> are of great interest in our work.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Computational Methods:<\/strong> Computational methods, including DFT calculations of the complete reaction profile, are routinely employed in our group for an in-depth understanding of the fundamental steps involved in the reactions and properties of our complexes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video autoplay controls loop src=\"http:\/\/people.iiti.ac.in\/~aks\/wp1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/cchem-video-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Transition mode for the hydride transfer in NPS-TS-II<sup>H<\/sup> from our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1039\/D3CY01383A\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Catal. Sci. Technol.<\/em><\/a> paper<em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction:<\/strong> Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies are performed in our laboratory to gain detailed structural insight for understanding our newly synthesised compounds&#8217; properties and reactivity behaviour. The single-crystal X-ray Diffraction Facility at SIC is equipped with state-of-the-art dual-core Agilent Technologies (Oxford Diffraction) Super Nova CCD System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spectroscopy:<\/strong> Although multinuclear NMR spectroscopy is the &#8220;everyday&#8221; method to characterize our new compounds, we also utilize other spectroscopic methods available at the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/iiti.ac.in\/sic\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sophisticated Instrument Center (SIC)<\/a>, IIT Indore, for complete characterization of new compounds. The following instruments, available at SIC, are routinely used for our characterization needs;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NMR:<\/strong> FT-NMR spectrometer, AVANCE III 400 Ascend, Bruker BioSpin International AG, Switzerland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mass (LC-MS):<\/strong> SIC is equipped with Bruker Daltonik, Benchtop easy-to-use, High-Performance Electrospray Ionization Quadrupole time-of-flight LC-MS spectrometer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Infrared (FT-IR):<\/strong> Tensor 27, BRUKER (with MIR source, ZnSe beam splitter and DLaTGS detector).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>UV-Vis:<\/strong> Varian Cary 100 Bio UV-Visible Spectrophotometer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a name=\"inert\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Inert Atmosphere Techniques:<\/span><\/strong> Several ligands and complexes prepared in our lab are extremely air and\/or moisture-sensitive.
