Prof. Prabhat Kumar Upadhyay received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 2011. He joined IIT Indore in 2012 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, where he became Associate Professor in 2017 and a Professor in 2022. He has been the Head/Faculty In-charge, Training and Placement at IIT Indore from June 2016 to May 2019. From May 2022 to August 2022, he was a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC), University of Oulu, Finland under the Nokia Foundation Fellowship. From April 2023 to July 2023, he was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (DEIB), Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
He is leading a Wireless Communication (WiCom) Research Group at IIT Indore, which is actively involved in cutting-edge research and development to cater to the emerging needs of the next generation wireless communication systems. His main research interests include cooperative and cognitive radio techniques, MIMO signal processing, hybrid satellite-terrestrial systems, energy harvesting, physical layer security, Internet of Things (IoT) networks, molecular communications and nano-networks. He has more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and has authored a book and six book chapters.
Prof. Upadhyay is currently serving as an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Communications Letters. He served as a Guest Editor of the Special Issue on “Energy-Harvesting Cognitive Radio Networks” in the IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications & Networking in 2018, and as an Associate Editor for IEEE Access during Jan. 2018 - Jan. 2022. He has also been involved in the Technical Program Committee of several IEEE premier conferences.
He is the Workshops Chair in 18th EAI International Conference on Body Area Networks (EAI BODYNETS), Milan, Italy, 2023. He was the Co-Chair, Communications Symposium Committee, National Conference on Communications (NCC), 2022. He served as the Track Co-Chair, Radio Access & Softwarisation (RAS), European Conference on Communications & Networking (EuCNC), Dubrovnik, Croatia, 2020 and as the TPC Co-Chair, IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunication Systems (ANTS), Indore, India, 2018. He was the Co-Organizer of Workshop on “Energy Harvesting Communication Networks” in IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), Bologna, Italy, 2018.
He has been conferred with IETE-N V Gadadhar Memorial Award, 2022. He received the Exemplary Editor Award of the IEEE Communications Letters, 2021. He has been awarded the Sir Visvesvaraya Young Faculty Research Fellowship under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, 2018-2023. He has been conferred with IETE-Prof SVC Aiya Memorial Award, 2018. He has co-authored a paper that received the Best Poster Award in COMSNETS, Bengaluru, 2023 and a paper that received the Best Paper Award in the International Conference on Advanced Communication Technologies and Networking (CommNet), Morocco, 2018. He received the Best Technology Development Award by IIT Indore, 2017. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
