Teaching faculty: Prof. Marwan Darwish, Professor, American University of Beirut, Lebanon
  • Prof. Marwan Darwish received his Ph.D. degree in Materials Processing from BRUNEL University, London, U.K in 1991. He then joined the Brunel Institute of Computational Mathematics (BICOM), U.K for one year as a post-doc before joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon in 1992, where he currently serves as a Professor. His research interest covers a range of topics in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) including solidification, advanced numeric using the Finite Volume Method (FVM), free surface flow, high-resolution schemes, multiphase flows, coupled algorithms, and algebraic multi-grid. He is a founding member of the CFD Group at AUB. He has published over 50 journal papers and contributed over 50 presentations to refereed international conferences.  
  • He recently co-authored a book entitled: “The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics: An Advanced Introduction with OpenFOAM and Matlab”, the book is published by Springer.

12. Course Coordinator
  • Dr. Shanmugam Dhinakaran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Indore, India. He received his Ph.D. in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer from IIT Kharagpur, India in 2008. He had worked as a post-doctoral researcher at University of Pau, France; University of Minho, Portugal; University of Porto, Portugal, and University of Valenciennes, France before joining IIT Indore as an Assistant Professor in 2012. Dr. Dhinakaran is also an adjunct faculty in the Department of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering, IIT Indore. He is the coordinator of The Centre for Fluid Dynamics at IIT Indore. Non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, Porous media, Nanofluids and Cardiovascular diseases are his research areas.

16. About Indore
  • Indore city is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. It is located 190 km from the Bhopal which is the Capital of Madhya Pradesh. It is an education hub of the state and houses both IIT as well as IIM.  It is well connected by road, rail and air. The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport and the nearest railway station is Indore Junction. Indore falls under Tier 2 cities in India and has a land area of 530 km2. Tincha falls, Patalpani, Choral Dam, Mandu, Maheshwar, Ujjain Mahakaleswar temple and Omkareshwar temple are some of the tourist attractions. The language spoken here is Hindi.

  • Participants can book their train tickets in https://www.irctc.co.in from their city to Indore Junction (INDORE JN - INDB).
  • In case of non-availability of direct trains to Indore (INDORE JN - INDB), one can book their tickets to Bhopal (BHOPAL JN - BPL) and from Bhopal take another train to Indore (travel time: between 4 and 6 and half hours). The best option is to get down in Bhopal (BHOPAL JN - BPL) and take the Chartered Bus (http://charteredbus.inVolvo Air conditioned) to Indore. This bus service is available every 30 minutes. Travel time from Bhopal Junction to Indore (Geeta Bhavan) is around 4 hours. From Geeta Bhavan, take an auto/taxi to Silver Springs Township, Indore (if you are given an accommodation in IIT Indore hostel).
Road

3. When does the course get over on September 9, 2016?
>> The lecture gets over at 13:00 hrs. However, examination will be conducted after the lecture. Participants may have to be in the institute at least till 6PM. So, please plan your trip accordingly. If you do not wish to attend the examination, you are free to leave after the lecture.
